Detectorist Finds Roman Intaglio in Stirlingshire

David Booth, the metal detectorist who famously found the Stirlingshire iron age gold torc hoard last year has made another fine find in Stirlingshire.
The piece is an eight hundred year old medieval seal but incorporates as its centrepiece a fine red ancient Roman intaglio with a classical figurine inscribed on it. This intaglio would originally have been set in a Roman ring and illustrates how these carved pieces were still highly valued even as late as the medieval period.
The piece is currently being assessed by Scotland’s Treasure Trove.
Well done David!
