Greater Protection for Roman Sites

Source: BBC News

BBC news highlights Historic Scotlands plans to identify those Roman marching camps in Scotland which are not currently protected by Scheduled Monument status.

Hopefully this is with the intention of securing that status and the protection from inappropriate land use and development that this brings in law. Our image here of Kintore marching camp (mentioned in the BBC article) taken in 2007 shows how completely an unprotected site can disappear under a sea of housing.

Obviously at Roman Scotland we believe strongly that all Roman sites in Scotland automatically deserve such distinction and trust that the wheels of bureaucracy will not turn slowly in this process.
